The Bentonville West Wolverines have at times been very impressive but have also displayed how young a football team they are. The Wolverines came into this game wanting to put the Fayetteville game in the rearview mirror. The Springdale Bulldogs have had the toughest season of just about any team in football this year. Springdale is coming off a tough loss to Har-Ber and was looking to bounce back against the Wolverines.

The first quarter of the Springdale-Bentonville West game would be low scoring. Springdale would have an effective drive end an interception. The Wolverines Jason Gloeckler picked off a Layne Hutchins pass and took it 99-yard for a touchdown. Bentonville West would take a 6-0 lead into the second quarter. West had been prone to other teams starting out quickly and that was not to be the case on Friday.

As low scoring as the first quarter was, the second quarter would more than make up for it. Wolverines’ quarterback Will Jarrett would get the scoring started with an 11-yard touchdown run to go up 14-0 over the Bulldogs early in the second quarter. Springdale would get the offense going in the second quarter. Springdale running back Erick Mendez would take a handoff 12-yards for a touchdown run to make the score 14-7 Bentonville West. The Bulldogs would strike again with 4:17 to go in the first half when Layne Hutchins would hit Alex Thompson on a 46- yard touchdown strike to tie the game at 14.

The Wolverines would regain the momentum before the half when Will Jarrett connected with Dakota McDonald on a 16-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-14. West would tack on one more touchdown to end the half when Jarrett connected with Stefan Banda on a short touchdown pass. Going in at the half Bentonville West would have the lead 28-14 over the Bulldogs.

The second half would be a back and forth affair between the Wolverines and the Bulldogs. The Wolverines’ Stefan Banda would strike again when he caught a deep touchdown pass from Will Jarrett. Bentonville West would pull ahead 35-14 after the Banda touchdown reception to open the third quarter. Springdale would answer the Bentonville West touchdown with one of their own. Bulldog quarterback would hit Jayden Minchew on a 48 yard touchdown strike to bring the Bulldogs back within striking distance at 35-21. The Wolverines would tack on one more touchdown and withstand a late Springdale rally in the second half to hold on to the victory 42-40 over Springdale.
